EU Safety Gate · Report-2012-003

MOM'S · Tattoo ink "Viper red" and "Snot green"

The product poses a serious risk because the aromatic amine o-toluidine was released from azo dyes in both tattoo inks: Viper Red 8.7 mg/kg, Snot Green 12 mg/kg. The presence of azo dyes is not compliant with Council of Europe Resolution "ResAP(2008)1 on requirements and criteria for the safety of tattoos and permanent make-up". In addition, Viper Red contained 2-ethoxy aniline, which is toxic. Furthermore, both tattoo inks contained compounds related to aromatic hydrocarbons.
