EU Safety Gate · Report-2007-21

Polaris Industries Inc. · Snowmobiles

This product poses a risk of injuries because the welding process to manufacture the upper front shock tower brackets may not have achieved sufficient weld penetration in some instances. If insufficient weld penetration were to occur, there is a possibility that the upper shock mount could begin to separate at the welded joint(s). If a separation of the welded joint(s) were to occur, the most likely case would be that this occurs gradually. The ride height of the machine would gradually diminish as the location of the upper shock mount moved upwards. This can occur either the right or left side. A less likely possibility is that the shock mount falls suddenly. If this occurs, the rider could lose control of the machine, either due to a sudden change in the ride height of the machine or due to interference with steering mechanism. The product does not comply with the Machinery Directive.
