Daimler Chrysler AG · Passenger car - steering system in Smart Fortwo
The product poses a serious risk of injuries because during the assembly process by the supplier of the mechanical steering (Delphi) it could be that a circlip (Seeger retaining ring) is not correctly fitted in all cases, which means that a perfect fit of this circlip in the groove provided is not always guaranteed. In the worst case this could result in migration of the ball bearing including the steering shaft during steering. This would mean loss of the connection between the steering pinion and the steering rack. The front wheels are then no longer steerable.
