Volvo · Passenger car - Volvo S80, V70, XC70, XC60

The product poses a risk of injuries because the engine cooling fan may permanently stop working due to a software error in the Fan Control Module (FCM). If the fan stops it may cause reduced Air Condition (AC) performance and the driver will normally be informed of the increased coolant temperature by a yellow information lamp and the following written message: "reduce speed". However, if the engine temperature continues to rise, a red warning lamp will light up and text instructions will indicate that the car should be stopped safely. In this specific failure mode, the deviation may lead to a rapid increase in coolant temperature and the driver may not notice the indication lamps and the text messages. The situation could result in boiling coolant, loss of coolant and eventually engine damage or engine break down, which may lead to accidents.
