The red plastic in the bouncing ball contains short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) (measured value up to 0.215%. In addition, the plastic contains diisobutyl phthalate (measured value up to 28%). SCCPs persist in the environment, are toxic to aquatic organisms at low concentrations and bioaccumulate in wildlife and humans, posing a risk to human health and the environment. Diisobuthyl phthalate may damage the unborn child and is suspected of damaging fertility. Also, the substance may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways, is very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects and is very toxic to aquatic life. The product does not comply with the Regulation on persistent organic pollutants (POP Regulation) and with the requirements of the Toy Safety Directive.
